Suspected U.S. Missile Attack Kills 8 in North Waziristan

In what was believed to be a U.S. Predator drone airstrike, several militants were killed when a missile hit a stronghold in Palooseen known to have been used by Talibani insurgents as a base for anti-government offensives. The village is located in North Waziristan, a region that has seen devastating violence in the weeks following a Pakistani military offensive in Southern Waziristan. Suicide bombers have killed hundreds of civilians. The U.S. has designated the Pakistani region the deadliest in the world and has pledged to support Pakistan’s government in its campaign to eliminate the Taliban’s presence there and in Afghanistan.
