Federal agents brought Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed, an Eritrean citizen and resident of Sweden, to the U.S. from Nigeria and charged him with supporting the Somali terrorist group, Al-Shabab. According to the indictment, Ahmed conspired to and did receive military training from Al-Shabab in addition to conspiring to provide financial and material support to the terrorist organization. Nigerian authorities transferred Ahmed to U.S. custody this past weekend and Ahmed appeared before a federal magistrate during a short detention hearing. Sabrina Shroff, Ahmed’s lawyer, indicated that Ahmed will plead not guilty to the charges.
