Kyrgyzstan President Resigns, Leaving New Leaders in Full Control

Kyrgyzstan President Kurmanbek Bakiyev resigned yesterday after negotiations failed to stabilize the country.  Bakiyev was also shot at while attending political meeting.  Key international players such as the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, US President Barack Obama, and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev praised Bakiyev’s decision to resign because it is the first step towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.  Kyrgyzstan will now be lead by an interim government headed by the former foreign minister Roza Otunbayeva.
