Representatives from Fatah and Hamas have come together for the first time since Hamas took control of Gaza in the 2007 elections. Senior Hamas officials Khalil al-Haya and Ayman Taha met with Fatah’s Nabil Shaath, chief negotiator in the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Both sides believe the meeting is an important step towards achieving national reconciliation, stating, “this meeting opened a horizon on which bilateral relations between Fatah and Hamas can move forward.”
