Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, a drug trafficker associated with the Sinaloa Cartel, has been ranked number 41 on Forbes magazine’s most-powerful people list with a net worth of $1 billion.  With a bounty of $5 million offered by the U.S. government and as Mexico’s most-wanted man, Guzman is responsible for thousands of deaths and up to $19 billion dollars of cocaine shipped to the United States from Colombia over the past few years.  He was arrested in 1993 but escaped prison in a laundry truck in 2001.

The Sinaloa Cartel controls the most northern part of Mexico bordering the U.S.  In February the DEA ended their 21-month investigation of the Sinaloa Cartel leading to 52 arrests.  However, the cartel is still strong and its leader remains free.
