Palestinian’s will have to wait a little longer to see a reconciliation between its major parties, Fatah and Hamas, after Palestinian President Abbas declared that his party will not resume communications with Hamas unless they accept a pact for national reconciliation that was drafted by the Egyptians.
The statement comes at a crucial time for the Palestinians as their relationship with Israel seems to be on a rocky path at best. Hamas had refused to sign the pact as it had concerns regarding the reform of the PLO and elections. Additionally, Hamas has stated that they will seek to establish communications with other factions in the Gaza strip as they implore the necessity and importance of a strong and united Palestine in 2010.
