McChrystal Ready for Mission

General Stanley McChrystal, Commander NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and U.S. Forces, Afghanistan has been eagerly awaiting the President’s response to his assessment.  Although President Obama’s plan for 30,000 additional troops is short of the 40,000 requested by General McChrystal, additional international forces are anticipated to buttress this force.  President Obama’s speech alluded to an additional NATO commitment of 5,000 to 8,000 troops following a meeting of foreign ministers’ in Brussels this week.  McChrystal appreciated the President’s “clarity, commitment and resolve outlined,” in his speech at West Point.
