In the Russian region of Dagestan, a suicide car bomb has left 6 officers dead. The attack occurred in the region’s capital, Makhachkala. The attack was carried out at a police checkpoint when the suicide bomber realized he was not going go beyond the checkpoint. Besides the 6 dead officers, 12 other policemen were injured as the bomb exploded as a vehicle carrying other officers passed next to the rigged up car bomb. The region has seen very violent activity lately, as the regions top police official was assassinated there last summer, and recently a top militant was killed by police less than a week ago. Additionally, a bomb that was set to explode at a railroad track was defused and the lawn of a top police official was attacked with grenades, but no injuries were sustained in that attack.
