Physicist Massoud Ali Mohammadi was killed by remote control bomb near his home in Tehran on Tuesday, BBC News reports. Iranian television quoted security officials at the scene as saying that the type of explosive device used has been linked to several foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel’s Mossad. Al Jazeera reports that there have been accusations that “Zionist agents” were behind the blast. The United States has called the allegation that either US or Israeli forces are behind the murder “absurd.” Mr. Mohammadi was a scientist and university professor. Initial reports said he was a nuclear physicist but has since appeared his specialty was quantum theory. Differing accounts portray Mr. Mohammadi as a staunch government supporter of the current Iran regime or as on a government list of academics backing opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi before the 2009 presidential election.
